Golf Players Ranking

With just two major PGA Tour events to go this season, the Fed Ex Cup Standings look pretty much as you’d expect them to. Eight of the top-10 ranked players in the world are all in the hunt heading into the BMW Championship at Conway Farms Golf Club this weekend, and if the first two playoff events are any indication of what we’ll see in the coming weeks, we should be in for an exciting finish.

The Surprising

Jordan Spieth – Eight months ago, this talented 20-year old didn’t even have his tour card. Two months ago he became the youngest player to win on tour in over 80 years and he currently sits at No. 10 in the Fed Ex Cup standings.

Gary Woodland – Up until about a month ago, the long bomber was struggling to get into the top-25, but after a win at the Reno Tahoe Open last month and a 2nd place finish at the Barclays, he’s right in the mix. Everyone has known that Gary has the potential to be a top-tier player and he finally seems to be seeing some results.

Graham DeLaet – Another long hitter that most fans probably weren’t familiar with until a few weeks ago. He has zero career wins on the PGA Tour but with a 3rd place finish at the Barclays and a 2nd place finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship, he’s playing well at the right time and has moved himself into good position heading into the final stretch.

The Not So Suprising

Tiger Woods – He’s won five times this year and though he hasn’t played all that well in the past weeks, he’s right in the mix. Big surprise.

Phil Mickelson – After his British Open victory, Phil hasn’t had any real impressive finishes but he’s been steady and has put himself in position to have a chance going into the championship.

Adam Scott – He’s the closest thing to perfection on tour right now and with the way he’s been playing of late, he’s the odds of favorite to win it all (aside from Tiger).

What to Expect

Plain and simple, expect the cream to rise to the top in the coming weeks. With the current points standings, Adam Scott, Tiger, Henrik Stenson and Phil will all have chances to take home the hardware. This week, the field will be cut from 70 players to 30 players and with $10 million on the line, performing under pressure will be imperative to success.

Bottom line, the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs are designed for drama, and with the way everything currently sits, we might finally get to see something we’ve all been waiting for…..a head-to-head battle between the top players in the world.
