The Travelers Championship brings us to this week’s PGA Tour stop, the third stop since golf recommenced. Known as one of Connecticut’s pristine golf courses, TPC River Highlands will play host to this week’s event.
TPC River Highlands located in Cromwell, Connecticut, is situated on a bluff overlooking the Connecticut River. Formerly known as the Middletown Golf Club and Edgewood Country Club, TPC River Highlands is an annual tour stop for the PGA Tour as the Travelers Championship.
The Course
Players will duke it out on 18 holes surrounded by maple, oak, sycamore trees, and gently rolling fairways with pond and lake hazards. Despite the field being loaded for this tournament, the golfers will enjoy the course’s balance of nature with the course layout.
The course itself is a healthy balance of long and short holes. The notable signature holes (15-17) play around a four-acre lake, putting every player’s game to the test.
When factoring in the final hole of the stretch, Stuart Cink claims that its, “four of the most exciting finishing holes in a group anywhere in the world.”
Lineup + Featured Groups
This week’s featured groups are stacked, to say the least.
Taking the 10th tee at 7:25 AM are Jon Rahm, Chez Reavie, and Webb Simpson. With four top-10 finishes and a runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open, Rahm comes into the week ranked 25th in the FedExCup standings.
Defending champ, Chez Reavie currently ranked 106th in the FedExCup standings, is eager to reclaim his title sharing this in his recent post on Instagram.
And, the star-studded Simpson, recently moving to the No. 1 spot heading into the week after his win at the RBC Heritage is looking to secure this spot for another week.
Starting on the 10th hole, teeing off at 7:35 am ET is Rory McIlroy, ranked No. 4 in the FedExCup standings, the three-time defending champ, Phil Mickelson, and the fan-favorite, Bryson DeChambeau. Heading into the week with high momentum is Bryson DeChambeau, a five-time PGA Tour champion.
Although his recent driving accuracy has been a little shaky, his recent five straight finishes in the top nine have him as a favorite to win. DeChambeau goes into this week ranked 11th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). He’s taken this week to practice and really hone in on his drive.
EVENT DETAILS
The Travelers Championship has an interesting mix of golfers looking to add to their FedExCup points. Will No. 46th ranked Bubba Watson become the second golfer to make it a four-peat win at this tournament, or will there be another new champion? Needless to say, it’ll be a competitive and exciting tournament this weekend.
