Trump Turnberry, a Luxury Collection Resort, is located in southwestern Scotland and is widely regarded as one of the finest golf resorts in the world. Turnberry’s first golf course opened in July 1901. The Turnberry Hotel set a whole new standard in luxury with the construction of an extravagant hotel in 1906 and continues that tradition today. During World War I and II, Turnberry served as an Air Base and the Turnberry Hotel transformed into a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers; a memorial to fallen soldiers remains overlooking the 12th green of Ailsa. Turnberry operated under several owners including Starwood Hotels and Leisurecorp; Donald Trump purchased and renamed the property Trump Turnberry in 2014.
The Ailsa
The Ailsa at Trump Turnberry Resort is one of the finest courses in the world and named Britain’s best golf course by many leading golf publications. The Ailsa Course hosted the Open Championship on four occasions in 1977, 1986, 1994, and 2009. The par 70 Ailsa Course features a demanding links style course stretching 7,217 yards from the championship tees. Ailsa has a spectacular coastal scenery with views of the Ailsa Craig. Turnberry’s trademark and signature hole overlooks the ruins of Bruce’s Castle, the birthplace of Scotland’s Robert the Bruce. Ailsa features only one par 5, an extremely challenging and short hole due to the natural contours of the land.
Kintyre Golf Course
The Kintyre is a links style championship course with undulating greens, rolling fairways and stunning ocean holes with views of Kintyre, Arran, and the famous Turnberry Lighthouse. The signature 8th hole begins as you walk up Bain’s Hill for an elevated tee shot toward the sea followed by a blind shot to the green set in a gully by the rocks. The Kintyre plays to a par 72 and challenges even the best players in the world from the Championship tees that play a total of 6,921 yards. Kintyre hosted several championship caliber events including the Final Qualifying round of the Open Championship in 2004.
