This resort is much more than another course to check off your list, it&#8217;s a way of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>SHIPPING YOUR STICKS THERE<\/h1>\n<p>When traveling to The Greenbrier, we strongly suggest sending your clubs in advance with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenbrier.com\/Golf\/Golf-Club-Shipping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ship Sticks<\/a>. This will alleviate the stress of having to lug your clubs to and from the airport.<\/p>\n<p>When you arrive at the resort, your clubs will be waiting.\u00a0Upon checking in, you should inform the front desk that your clubs were shipped there. They will then transport them over to the main golf clubhouse for you so all you&#8217;ll have to do is show up at the course ready to play.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>THE COURSES<\/h1>\n<h2>THE OLD WHITE TPC COURSE<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5113\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 708px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5113 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/TPC_blog_1.jpg\" alt=\"The Old White TPC Course The Greenbrier Resort\" width=\"698\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/TPC_blog_1.jpg 698w, https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/TPC_blog_1-340x220.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">The Old White TPC Course | The Greenbrier Resort<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally designed and constructed by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor in 1914, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenbrier.com\/Golf\/Golf-Courses\/The-Old-White-TPC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Old White TPC<\/a> has stood the test of time and is still considered one of the finest courses in the United States more than 100 years later.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The course recently saw a major restoration project after a catastrophic weather event in 2016. The Old White TPC received new fairways, new bunkers, and new green complexes. The changes were made to return the course as close as possible to its original design.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In July of 2017, the course reopened to host The Greenbrier Classic (now a Military Tribute at The Greenbrier). The PGA TOUR FedExCup event is hosted on the historic course annually.\u00a0 The Old White TPC has received rave reviews from both professionals and amateurs across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>THE MEADOWS COURSE<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5112\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 708px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5112 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Meadows_blog_1.jpg\" alt=\"The Meadows Course The Greenbrier Resort\" width=\"698\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Meadows_blog_1.jpg 698w, https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Meadows_blog_1-340x220.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">The Meadows Course | The Greenbrier Resort<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenbrier.com\/Golf\/Golf-Courses\/The-Meadows-Course\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Meadows Course<\/a> began as a 9-hole course named Lakeside. Designed by Alexander H. Findlay, it opened for play in 1911. In 1923, Seth Raynor re-designed the course while he was on the property updating The Old White TPC and building the original Greenbrier Course.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1962, Lakeside was expanded to an 18-hole routing by architect Dick Wilson, who used dirt excavated during the construction of The Bunker, The Greenbrier&#8217;s top secret fallout shelter for Congress during the Cold War,\u00a0 to expand the course. Years later, in 1999, Bob Cupp once again redesigned the golf course. The course was officially named The Meadows.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After sustaining substantial damage during the flood of 2016, The Meadows underwent a full restoration and reopened for play during the summer of 2017. The new and exciting routing features dynamic green complexes, breathtaking mountain vistas, and signature stacked sod bunkers throughout the course.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guests have been extremely complimentary of the new layout of the challenging but fun course.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>THE GREENBRIER COURSE<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5136\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 708px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5136 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Greenbrier_course_blog.jpg\" alt=\"The Greenbrier Course at The Greenbrier Resort\" width=\"698\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Greenbrier_course_blog.jpg 698w, https:\/\/www.shipsticks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Greenbrier_course_blog-340x220.jpg 340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">The Greenbrier Course | The Greenbrier Resort<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Greenbrier course was designed by Seth Raynor, a close associate of Charles Blair Macdonald and one of the great architects of early American golf. The course opened for play in 1924. It was later redesigned in 1977 by Jack Nicklaus in preparation for the 1979 Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1994, The Greenbrier played host to the Solheim Cup, making it the only resort course in the world to host both prestigious events.\u00a0 The course was also home to The Greenbrier American Express Championship, a PGA TOUR Champions event, from 1985 through 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Snead famously shot 59 in the final round of the 1959 Spring Festival on The Greenbrier, making him the first known golfer to accomplish the rare feat in competition.\u00a0 Sports Illustrated later called the round \u201cthe greatest competitive round in the history of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Greenbrier course is opening on July 30th as a nine-hole option for guests, as plans for a redesign of the remainder of the course continue.<\/p>\n<h1>OFF THE COURSE<\/h1>\n<h2>MUST-DO&#8217;S<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With more than 55 indoor and outdoor activities, there\u2019s no shortage of fun for guests of all ages and interests at The Greenbrier. It features a fine dining experience that can\u2019t be matched. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenbrier.com\/Dining\/Restaurant-Collection\/Prime-44-West\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prime 44 West<\/a>, The Greenbrier\u2019s steakhouse that honors NBA legend and West Virginia native Jerry West, features prime steaks and seafood. In 2018, the restaurant was named &#8220;West Virginia\u2019s Best Restaurant&#8221; by Southern Living.
